On Assignment: The "My Village, Clean Village" Initiative
As a photographer, my job is often to find the "extraordinary" in the "ordinary." When I arrived in the village of Kandra to document Bhuwan Rawat’s cleanliness drive, I realized this wasn't just a news story—it was a masterclass in community composition.
From a technical standpoint, I moved away from staged "PR-style" shots. I wanted to capture the grit. I focused on the texture of the handmade brooms against the rugged Himalayan soil and the candid expressions of the women leading the charge. Using a wide-angle lens allowed me to show the scale of the movement, placing the villagers within the context of the vast landscape they are so fiercely protecting.
The Photographer’s Take: These images serve as a reminder that the most powerful subjects aren't always found in studios; they are found in the hands of people working for a better world.
